- About Ali
Freedom on my Doorstep was Ali’s first public exhibition as in independent artist. As part of the three-month project ‘Walking Wiltshire’s White Horses‘, based at Wiltshire Museum in Devizes, the exhibition ran from August 16 – 31st 2013.
In collaboration with digital multimedia artist, Richard White, Ali created work on a variety of scales and in different media including long, batiked silk hangings, text and silk maps each inspired by walking the local landscape and engaging with the history of the eight White Horses, including inspiration from the silk escape maps used by British Servicemen in WW2, and blended this with her own experiences of the landscape. Ali and Richard’s work was presented in various formats, from projections, to interactive digital apps. A variety of pieces made by Ali and local community members especially for the site, remain in the museum as part of its long-term collection.
From the designs created as part of the Walking Wiltshire’s White Horses project, Ali launched her first commercial line of textile-led products – The ‘White Horses Collection’ of silk scarves, handkerchiefs and greetings cards were developed into products by Kinetika Design Studio.
